Tantalum Crucible

The seamless tantalum crucible is produced using a seamless process that meets requirements. The welded tantalum crucible is made from flat-rolled material through an automatic or semiautomatic fusion welding process without filler metal.

A tantalum crucible is a high-temperature resistant container made from tantalum metal. It is primarily used for melting, sintering, and crystal growth under high vacuum, inert atmosphere, or high-temperature conditions, such as melting rare metals, growing oxide crystals, or serving as a container for high-temperature chemical reactions.

Tantalum crucibles are suitable for melting many highly reactive metals and compounds, such as titanium, zirconium, hafnium, uranium and their alloys, as well as various oxide and fluoride crystals (e.g., laser crystals YAG, YLF). However, they must not be used for melting aluminum, iron, nickel, chromium, etc., which form low-melting-point eutectics with tantalum and will corrode the crucible.

  • Avoid rapid temperature changes to prevent thermal shock cracking.
  • Clean properly after use (usually with acid pickling to remove residues).
